Few singers/poets express the feel of what it is to be an inhabitant of the United Sates as well as Exene Cervenka and John Doe. Their seminal band X, formed in 1977 at the birth of the punk movement in Los Angeles, has beautifully described pride, repulsion, and confusion about the land they live in like no other. I cannot drive out of Los Angeles without singing "She has to leave…". Exene is a true original, and certainly one of the most important woman in rock music. This image was captured from X's performance in Penelope Spheeris' landmark film "Decline of Western Civilization", a film where so many got their first exposer to the punk scene in Southern California. This is as OG and legit as you can get in the punk world. -Chris Shary

GERMS/ CHRIS SHARY ARM BAND (T SHIRT)                                                                                                  SEE DETAIL

Seminal is a word that gets thrown around a bit too freely these days. However, I think it is a perfect way to describe LA's very own GERMS. Formed in 77, they were one of the first American bands to fully push the idea of punk on an unsuspecting Southern California crowd. They put out their first single on super low budget What Records in 77 as well, and it could not have been more DIY. One side recorded on a 2 track and the from a live set. It was a beautiful mess, and it clearly stirred the imagination of thousands of Southern California need-do-weels into forming bands of their own.

It is a true honor to have worked with Don Bolles on this shirt, and to have received his seal of approval. It was very important to me that the shirt was printed using the blue circle on the sleeve, and as far as I know, it's the first official GERMS shirt to have done so. Darby, I hope you're proud of this one! -Chris Shary

For the past 2 years, artist Chris Shary has been cranking out an alarming number of Sharpie portraits of punk musicians, pop culture icons, and movie monsters. His realistic Milo head drawing was originally done as a joke, but was quickly picked up as the movie poster for FILMAGE. Since then he has done some unusual mash-ups involving Milo, including this Milo Ramone head drawing (inspired by the 2012 Riot Fest Brooklyn t-shirt Shary drew). I mean who doesn't love both the Ramones and DESCENDENTS? Show off your love of both bands and let people know you have impeccable musical taste. Fully approved by the band, so it's an official DESCENDENTS shirt, despite not having a logo emblazoned on it. ENJOY!

IAN MACKAYE/ CHRIS SHARY IAN (T SHIRT)                                                                                                   SEE DETAIL

Two years ago artist Chris Shary began a massive series of quick Sharpie portraits that has spun out of control. Initially the series began out of sheer boredom and a simple desire to draw Abraham Lincoln. Shary quickly shifted gears and began illustrating punk music icons that have made a difference in his life. Ian MacKaye was the first on his list.

Shary, a high school drama teacher, is currently teaching because of punk rock and figures like MacKaye. Filled with the desire to make a difference, Shary began his teaching career 18 years ago, all the while illustrating in his spare time. It’s a tremendous honor that Ian has allowed us to use his likeness on this limited edition shirt.

A portion of all profits for this one will be donated to the Woman's Center Youth and Family Services of San Joaquin County
